Beauty, brains and benevolence, this super sweet mare ticks all the boxes! Pride is only a stable name, so the new owner of this smashing mare will have the pleasure of choosing their own show name. Out of Glenogra Starlight and by Fast Silver, Pride’s damsire Fast Woman was a champion Irish Draught mare, with conformation so good she was used as a breed standard and as a benchmark for future broodmare selection. Pride certainly looks to have inherited this ground covering, athletic build. She is a true example of classic Irish breeding, with a leg at each corner, yet sporty and light on her feet! Whilst she has enough bone to carry some weight, and has the height and depth of girth to accommodate a tall rider, she is well mannered enough to make her a safe choice of ride for a teenager or smaller lady rider too. A forward-thinking mare, Pride is an enthusiastic ride and clearly enjoys her work, but she still remains light in the hand and is a polite ride in the arena. She is really eager to please and willing to learn; qualities which make her a pleasure to school. Her straight forwardness shines through not only on the flat, but also over show jumps. She will jump without question whatever is put in front of her, including fillers, planks and oxers and will keep coming to a fence even if her jockey fluffs up the stride! Although she is still a little green over coloured fences, Pride has that wonderful ‘5th leg’ and sense of self-preservation that all the best Irish horses have written into their DNA! This means that she is able to get herself and her jockey out of trouble if you end up too close or too far away from the fence. You can put your trust into her entirely. In May 2021, Pride competed in her first in-house show jumping event and really showed her worth as she took it all in her stride despite her lack of show ring experience. This versatile lady is also a super safe hack, having proved her worth attending the weekly group hack with Sally. She has shown herself to be well behaved in traffic and a calm and composed hack in company. Pride is truly at home out on the cross-country course, where she is a brave and bold ride over solid fences. She has been cross country schooling at Lodge Farm in Matfield and was well behaved, keen and uncomplicated, despite being away from home. This innate ability to cross the country safely would make her an excellent hunter, and as you can see from her pictures, she would certainly look the part at the meet! The cherry on the cake with this sweet mare is her loving, affectionate nature in the stable. She is a pleasure to handle in all ways, and is one of those rare sorts that genuinely enjoys being made a fuss of! A truly versatile, good-looking and sweet natured mare, she is destined to become her new owner’s Pride and joy.
